The Morehouse School of Medicine’s Lee Street campus extension is a transformative, mixed-use living and learning community in Atlanta’s Historic West End. Situated at the highly visible corner of Lee Street and Park Street in Southwest Atlanta, the project delivers housing, health and wellness facilities, retail, and office space for the Atlanta University Center Consortium Schools. The health and wellness programs include a fitness center operated by YMCA and a clinic that provides holistic care to the community. The clinic occupies the top two floors: a Student Clinic on the 3rd floor and a Primary Care Clinic on the 2nd floor. The Student Clinic will initially provide medical services for Morehouse College and School of Medicine, with plans to expand services to the university systems nearby. Also on the 3rd floor is the Sports Medicine Clinic and imaging center with an X-ray and CT located on the exterior glass with views to campus. The Primary Care Clinic is supplemented with holistic care and behavioral health services, which are not available elsewhere in the nearby community.

Throughout the clinical areas, technology plays a large role in providing opportunities for wellness including telemedicine for interacting with patients and specialists virtually. In all clinical areas, Morehouse School of Medicine students will have the opportunity to learn alongside seasoned practitioners within collaborative workspaces that are designed to accommodate the changing healthcare landscape. The building’s striking – yet simple – architecture will reflect its position as the gateway to the Atlanta University Center. Exposed steel cross-bracing elements will punctuate the building’s Lee Street façade, and the generous glass behind will allow for welcome views into the building as well as expansive views out of the building toward the Morehouse School of Medicine’s historic campus and the Atlanta skyline beyond.
